Naidu flooded with complaints about lack of water in RDS canals
Telugu Desam Party (TDP) president N. Chandrababu
Naidu’s padayatra on the second day in Mahabubnagar district on Tuesday
went off smoothly with no protests from Telangana activists and people
all along his way raising the issue of lack of water to their fields
under the Rajolibanda Diversion Scheme (RDS) canal system.
People
at Julakal, ‘26{+t}{+h}Canal’, Venkatapuram, Pardipuram and Uppal cross
in Alampur constituency complained about not getting water from RDS.
Farmers and women who got an opportunity to express their views told Mr.
Naidu that they would not require anything but water in RDS canals. It
would resolve all their problems.
A farmer at Julakal
told Mr. Naidu that canal restoration works under packages IV and V
were taken up while ignoring those of packages I and II and questioned
Mr. Naidu on how he, as Leader of the Opposition, would solve their
problem.
Mr. Naidu assured him that he would take up
the issue with the Chief Minister by writing to him so that works were
taken up under packages useful to them.
The TDP, if
voted to power in the next elections, would lay special emphasis on
giving water to every inch of land under the RDS canal system in
Mahabubnagar district, the TDP chief promised.
Telangana issue
On
the issue of Telangana, he reiterated that TDP was not against
statehood to the region but the issue was in the hands of the Congress.
Alleging
that the Congress government had been allowing belt (liquor) shops
indiscriminately to fill its coffers, Mr. Naidu said it was not only
ruining the lives of the poor but was also bothering him in his
padayatra as some people were coming to his programme in an inebriated
condition.
Party leaders Nama Nageswara Rao,
Motkupalli Narasimhulu, Errabelli Dayakar Rao, Kothakota Dayakar Reddy,
Ravula Chandrasekhar Reddy, A. Revanth Reddy and others participated in
the padayatra.
